Women's pelvic health is a specialist area which focuses on problems related to the pelvic floor and pelvis.
These include incontinence and bladder dysfunction, pelvic and vaginal pain as well as aches and pains during pregnancy.
Did you know that 1 in 3 women will experience urinary incontinence after childbirth, 1 in 10 faecal incontinence, 1 in 2 pelvic organ prolapse and 1 in 10 women complain of painful intercourse post baby, while 66% of women present with a diatsasis recti (tummy gap) post baby. All of these conditions are successfully treated with pelvic health physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Do you experience stress incontinence? Overactvie bladder? Pelvic girdle pain?
Many of these women are told that these experiences are just a fact of life, something that is unavoidable and that you just have to live with. It’s also considered something only people post-preganancy deal with. This couldn’t be more wrong.
You don’t have to suffer alone. And you certainly don’t have to suffer for the rest of your life.
Women’s Health Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation is the option you may have been looking for, but didn’t realise it was available to you. Whether you are pre-nantal, post-natal or have never been pregnant, all women can experience these symptoms, and all women can get help.

Pelvic Girdle Pain
Treatment of any issues caused by problems of the pelvis or bladder. One in three women will suffer from a pelvic floor related issue at some stage in their lives.
PGP is either categorized as âspecificâ or ânon-specificâ PGP. âSpecificâ PGP occurs when there is a specific event or medical cause, such as a fall, fracture, inflammatory arthritis. âNon-specificâ PGP, which is more common, often arises during or shortly after pregnancy. So the saying âit will get betterâ after birth isnât always accurate. PGP is often misdiagnosed, misunderstood, and poorly managed.

Women's Health FAQ's
Womenâs health physiotherapy is a specialist area that can address issues related to the pelvis and pelvic floor. The types of issues that might be treated would include incontinence and bladder issues, pelvic and vaginal pain, along with other aches and pains that may arise during pregnancy.
Your womenâs health physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your current problem and ask relevant questions about your pelvic health issues. They will then complete a physical examination which, if required may include an internal examination. This will all be discussed in full with you at the time and then a treatment plan can be put in place for your condition.
The number of sessions required for your condition will vary, however after your initial assessment your specialist physiotherapist will discuss their findings and put together a treatment pathway for you. This will outline the planned sessions and an outline of the time line expected for your recovery.
