Why Tracking Your Sweat Could Be the Game-Changer Your Training Needs
When it comes to optimizing performance, most athletes and fitness enthusiasts obsess over training plans, nutrition, and recovery—but one crucial factor often slips through the cracks: hydration. And not just drinking water when you’re thirsty—we’re talking about strategic, personalized hydration. That starts with tracking your sweat.
Sweat: More Than Just a Sign of a Good Workout
Sweating is your body’s natural cooling system, but it also signals how much fluid—and which electrolytes—you’re losing during exercise. Everyone sweats differently. Some people barely drip in an hour-long session, while others end up drenched. The amount and composition of your sweat depends on factors like:
- Genetics
- Environment (heat and humidity)
- Workout intensity
- Fitness level
- Acclimatization
That’s why hydration needs vary so widely. If you’re just guessing how much water or electrolytes to take in, you could be overhydrating (risking hyponatremia) or underhydrating (leading to cramps, fatigue, or even heat stroke).
The other week we had the team from FlowBio in to show us how their state-of-the-art sweat sensor. We had three of our clinicians, Annie, Brian and Susan test it out during their workouts. This was a great session seeing how we can transfer this data into real time knowledge of how to hydrate yourself. Watch the video linked below to have look on how our team got on with the sensor.
